Importico’s Bakery Café artisan breads feature traditional ingredients, and leave out any additives, or preservatives. Bread is humankind’s staple food and has been for millennia, so why change what is proven to work? We use flour, water, salt and a natural levain, so no additional yeast is necessary.

Levain is a leavening agent, or bread starter, which is frequently used in place of yeast to raise dough. It’s French in origin, and food historians estimate it has been in use since the 1600s.

All our breads are hand-made fresh daily and baked in a stone deck oven. We believe that the simplicity of our breads is what makes them so special. Our breads contain no sugar, no fat (oil) and no dairy which makes our breads delicious, healthy and vegan-friendly as well.

Our daily breads include:

  • French Baguettes – A traditional crusty French bread made of unbleached, unbromated flour. They are also available as Epi, Ficelle, Mini’s and French Dinner Rolls.
  • Country Sourdough – A traditional favorite, available round, or oblong. Our country bread is a light sourdough bread shelled into an incredibly thin, golden crust.
  • Caraway Rye – Wonderfully aromatic bread with an equally incredible crust.
  • Cinnamon Raisin Bread – A breakfast favorite totally covered in cinnamon.
  • Rustic – A hearty blended bread using both wheat and rye flours for a true country taste. Available round or oblong.
  • Six-Grains – This healthy bread is baked with flax seed, millet, oats, wheat grains, rye and tef, an ancient grain.
  • Whole Wheat and Bran – Our whole wheat and bran is healthy, delicious bread, hand-made with stone-ground whole wheat and bran flours. Available round or pan loaf.
  • Ciabatta – Our take on the Italian classic Ciabatta bread is great for sandwiches, dinner, or as a delicious bruschetta. Available in mini size also.
  • Italian bread – Hand-made in the Old World tradition, and covered in flavorful toasted sesame seeds. Importico’s Italian bread is also available non-seeded and as a sub roll.
  • Brioche – This beautiful braided bread is available every day by special order only.

Available Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday:

  • Semolina – This family favorite is made of exceptional Durham Semolina flour and topped with toasted sesame seeds. Available round or horseshoe shaped.

Available Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday:

  • Multi-Grain – This healthy wholegrain bread is hand-made with stone-ground whole wheat, wildflower honey, sunflower seeds, millet, natural sesame seeds, hulled sesame seeds, poppy seeds, flax seeds, bran, oats and pumpernickel.

In addition, we bake our specialty breads every Saturday. These include:

  • Asiago Cheese Bread – An aromatic bread with asiago cheese folded into the dough.
  • Cranberry Walnut – We add dried cranberries and walnuts to our multi-grain dough making incredible, healthy bread suitable for breakfast, or for sandwiches.
  • Kalamata Olive and Rosemary – In the mood for an aromatic artisan bread overflowing with flavor, as well as a wonderful texture? Then try our Kalamata Olive and Rosemary.
  • Provencal – Packed full with tasty sun-dried tomatoes, black olives, garlic, and Italian herbs. This bread is perfect for dipping into your finest olive oils and balsamic vinegar.
  • Pumpernickel Raisin – It’s robust with raisins and has a tantalizing texture. The perfect breakfast bread, or try it late in the evening, with your favorite glass of port.
  • Rosemary – Adding Rosemary gives this artisan bread an aromatic aroma to match its grand crust and incredible texture.
  • Cheese Bread – Our cheese bread is loaded with Swiss and cheddar on the inside and then baked to a delicious golden crust.
